Cultural Events

Recycle History - the ride is not just about cycling we also want to meet people and have fun along the way. There are rest days with organised events and each cycling day is short enough to stop and talk to people we meet on the way

1 As part of registration we request that you write fifty words why you want to take part in the ride. Also can you please say what languages you speak – we would like each group of cyclists to have a Russian speaker if at all possible. We suggest you learn some Russian, it will be very useful.

2 Singing and music – we ask that you bring your singing voices, musical instruments and songs. We shall be having entertainments on each rest day where Recycle History hopes all cyclists will join in. The support vehicle that follows all cyclists every cycling day to ensure everyone reaches that nights destination will carry your musical instruments.

3 There will be events during rest days with local history societies with talks and refreshments

4 Tug of War competition at each rest day location and at start and finish of ride. Symbolises the futility of human conflict but we can have a lot of fun being in different teams and mixing in with local people to balance the sides up. It’s a fun competition that everyone and anyone can take part in and easy to make friends when on your team.

5 If you can, bring a something to change into for the evening dinners and parties – just something to wear that makes you feel good

6 We hope to arrange a campsite near to Borodino and camp for our last night in Russia. One guest for each cyclist.

7 Celebratory dinners together:

i) An evening dinner in Kaunus for all cyclists (each cyclist can invite one guest) the night before the first days cycling.
ii) A welcome in Vilnius at the end of the first days cycling
iii) An evening dinner in Vitebsk to celebrate our stay in Belorussia
iv) An evening dinner at one other location in Russia – venue yet to be decided upon
v) A BBQ at Borodino, the night before the reconstruction of the Battle of Borodino, again each cyclist can invite one guest.
