this well known graphic shows the number of soldiers who died on the invasion into Russia and well before the winter. This was due to death by disease and starvation. Napoleon had planned for a short and focussed campaign and was drawn ever further into Russia until their was greater reason to go on than to go back. Many more were to die. Recycle History cycle into Russia becasue most of the combatants and almost certainly most of the Belorussian and Russian populations on the route of the march died on the march to Moscow. Read more…

Recycle History will be visiting all the shops we know about on the routes before the event to try and ensure that sufficient foods are available for the riders as they pass through. However, the distances between shops and the fact that most people live and work in the same locality means that there is little traffic or travelling between places on the route. Shops generally carry stock sufficient for the local use. The influx of many cyclists on a certain day may mean that shops will run out of supplies. It’s a first come first served basis – but look out for your fellow cyclists and share what you have.
